October 09, (THEWILL) – A popular Kano singer, Magajiya Dambata, is dead. She was 86 years old.
Dambata died on Friday evening after a brief illness at her home in Dambata, Kano state.
Dambatta rose to stardom in the 1970s, and was a household name in the 1980s.
The late singer’s songs highlight the importance of education, good moral values, child development, and abstaining from social vices.
Sometime in 2019, the renowned singer went blind and was seen begging for alms to survive at Makoda village in Kano where she lived.
A public fund was thereafter set up for her upkeep and renovation of her house.
