Magassa - Westham

December 05, (THEWILL) — Diogo Dalot scored his first league goal at Old Trafford but Manchester United could not hold on for victory in a 1-1 draw with West Ham. Soungoutou Magassa grabbed his maiden goal for the visitors to earn a vital point in their fight against relegation.

The home side created numerous opportunities in the opening period. Bryan Mbeumo tested Alphonse Areola with a dipping strike, before Joshua Zirkzee saw his instinctive effort cleared off the line by former United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Bruno Fernandes then hit the woodwork from the rebound.

Dalot finally gave Ruben Amorim’s team the lead in the 58th minute, finishing into the bottom-left corner after latching onto Casemiro’s deflected attempt. United pushed for a second goal but failed to extend their advantage.

West Ham punished that profligacy late on through a set-piece. Jarrod Bowen flicked on a delivery, and though Noussair Mazraoui cleared off the line, Magassa kept his composure to find the net and level the match.

Fernandes volleyed wide in the dying moments after a poor clearance from the visitors.

The result moved United above Liverpool into eighth position, though they missed the chance to climb to fifth.

It West Ham remain in 18th place, two points behind Leeds United.
