June 19, (THEWILL) – Manchester City chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, expressed his firm stance on the alleged financial charges brought against the club by the English Premier League.
The charges, which involve over 100 alleged breaches of the league’s financial regulations from 2009 to 2018, have been a cause of frustration for the club. They specifically relate to the provision of accurate financial information, including revenue and operating costs. Al Mubarak voiced his disappointment, highlighting that the situation diminishes the club’s achievements, including their recent UEFA Champions League victory.
City Football Club, recently crowned UCL winners, has been under investigation by the EPL since December 2018. The investigation alleges multiple breaches of financial rules and accuses the club of lacking cooperation. Al Mubarak acknowledged his strong opinions on the matter but chose to exercise restraint during his interview. “It’s very frustrating because it takes so much from the great work that’s happening at this club and it’s happening not just on the football pitch. The football pitch – what these players have achieved this year, the treble, is incredible,” Al Mubarak said.
