Manchester United

March 04, (THEWILL) – Manchester City maintained their English Premier League title hopes with a 2-0 win over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.

Phil Foden scored a brilliant solo goal, cutting in from the right to beat three defenders before firing home. Bernardo Silva sealed the points with a clinical finish after a mazy run from Jack Grealish.

Despite dominating early on, City struggled to create clear-cut chances, with Ilkay Gundogan heading over from a Jack Grealish cross. However, they eventually took the lead through Foden’s moment of magic.

Newcastle threatened occasionally, with Anthony Gordon causing a few problems, but they were unable to find an equaliser. The introduction of Joe Willock gave the Magpies a lift, but it was City who scored again, with Silva’s strike putting the game beyond doubt.

The hosts saw out the remaining 20 minutes comfortably to claim a crucial three points and close the gap from Arsenal to just two points. City face Crystal Palace next week, while Newcastle will be looking for their first win in two months when they host Wolverhampton Wanderers.
