May 19, (THEWILL)- Roberto De Zerbi’s tenure as Brighton and Hove Albion manager came to a disappointing end as the Seagulls fell to a 2-0 defeat against Manchester United at the Amex Stadium. Despite the result, United’s quest for an English Premier League top-seven finish ultimately proved futile.
The Italian’s final match in charge started brightly for the hosts, with Valentin Barco’s early effort forcing a save from Andre Onana. However, events at Brentford’s clash with Newcastle soon rendered Brighton’s ambitions irrelevant, as the Magpies booked the final European spot.
Though Brighton continued to threaten, with Joao Pedro and Adam Lallana going close, United’s Alejandro Garnacho also had a chance well saved by Jason Steele. The second half saw chances at both ends, with Lallana’s effort cleared off the line and Garnacho’s long-range attempt blocked.

In his time managing at the club, De Zerbi guided Brighton to a highest ever EPL finish of 10th. However, the Italian now departs with his final game overshadowed by United’s hollow victory.
