April 14, (THEWILL) – Manchester United has announced the appointment of a team of consultants to assist with the Old Trafford redevelopment project.
As THEWILL reported, the club recently stated that they are considering modernising and redeveloping the 112-year-old stadium, which has served as their home since 1910.
The Red Devils stated on Thursday that they are working on ideas to reconstruct Old Trafford with business consulting firm Legends International and architectural firm Populous, which designed the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A statement from Old Trafford read: “Manchester United has appointed a team of leading consultants to begin work on creating a masterplan for the redevelopment of Old Trafford.
“The team will be led by Legends International and Populous, both of which have a wealth of stadium development experience from across the globe.
“Work will begin immediately on developing options for Old Trafford and studying their feasibility, with the aim of significantly enhancing the fan experience.
“Fans will be at the heart of the process, starting with a meeting between the consultants and the Manchester United Fans’ Advisory Board later this month.
“A similar process is already underway in relation to the club’s training facilities, with KSS appointed to develop a master plan for an expanded, state-of-the-art facility for the Men’s, Women’s and Academy teams.”
The most likely course of action is redevelopment of the existing site, which would include adding the south stand to increase Old Trafford’s overall capacity to over 80,000 people.
It was once reported that the stadium could be completely demolished and rebuilt from the ground up, however this is understandably no longer the case.
