February 27, (THEWILL) – Manchester United claimed a narrow victory against Ipswich Town in an action-packed English Premier League encounter on Wednesday night.
The 3-2 win represented just the fifth league triumph for Ruben Amorim since his appointment as United head coach in November 2024.
The result halted a three-match winless streak in the league and moved the Red Devils up one position to 14th in the table.
Yet, they started poorly as Ipswich took an early lead through Jaden Philogene. United responded with two goals to take control of the game.
An own goal from Sam Morsy and a strike from Matthijs de Ligt put the visitors ahead midway through the first half.
However, Philogene netted his second goal to equalise for Ipswich and Man Utd had to play the rest of the match with 10 men following Patrick Dorgu’s dismissal before the interval.
Harry Maguire proved decisive immediately after half-time, powering home a header that ultimately settled the contest in favour of Manchester United.
The central defender rose highest from a set-piece delivery to score what would be the winning goal, continuing United’s effectiveness from dead-ball situations throughout the match.
The victory held particular significance for Amorim, whose first match in charge of United came against the same opposition back in November.
Despite the win, questions remain about United’s league position, with the club sitting in the bottom half of the table in February 2025.
Ipswich, despite the defeat, showed attacking intent through Philogene’s brace.
The result leaves both teams looking to improve their respective positions during the remaining fixtures of the 2024/2025 campaign.
