July 13, (THEWILL) – Manchester United and Ajax have come to a broad agreement on negotiations surrounding the signing of Lisandro Martinez.
The Argentine, who can play centre back, full back, and holding midfield, has drawn interest from fellow English Premier League side, Arsenal. The Red Devils have already made two offers for him and are eager to complete a deal as soon as possible because Erik ten Hag wants to get him to Old Trafford, even with Ajax making repeated attempts to raise his price.
United and Ajax have finally come to a general understanding, with the 13-time Premier League champions agreeing to pay a sum of €55 million for the 24-year-old, consisting of €50 million in fixed payments and €5 million in add-ons.
Ajax had hoped to bring United’s asking price closer to €60 million, but Martinez has become more vocal about his desire to go, over the past 48 hours, possibly causing a deal to be completed.
The two clubs are still at odds in negotiations over Antony, a Brazilian forward, who is also wanted by Chelsea, another United Premier League opponent. With at least three years left in the striker’s contract, Ajax are in no hurry to finalise a deal.
