August 22, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have been dealt an early blow in their 2023/2024 English Premier League campaign, with new signing, Mason Mount, ruled out until after the international break, due to injury.
The midfielder, who joined from Chelsea this summer in a £55 million deal, picked up the injury during United’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. Mount had started both of United’s opening league games this season, impressing particularly in the narrow 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford the previous week.
However, the England international was forced off in the 85th minute of the loss to Spurs. United have now confirmed that Mount’s substitution was due to an minor injury that will keep him out of action until after the international break in early September. This comes as a frustration for both the player and club, as Mount looked to build on his bright start to life at Old Trafford.
The injury means Mount will miss United’s upcoming league clash with Nottingham Forest, as well as the highly anticipated match against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium. United manager Erik ten Hag will now have to shuffle his midfield options as the team looks to bounce back from the sorry loss to Spurs.
United have been linked with midfielders in the transfer window, with Sofyan Amrabat reportedly close to finalising a £29 million move from Fiorentina. However, Ten Hag will rely on his current squad to cope with Mount’s absence in the coming weeks.
