July 26, (THEWILL) – Manchester United have reportedly made a substantial bid of £51.4 million for Atalanta’s young striker, Rasmus Hojlund.
The offer, comprising €50m with an additional €10m in add-ons, is currently under discussion with Atalanta. However, it is understood that the bid falls short of the Italian club’s valuation of the 20-year-old player, which is believed to be around €70m. Talks between the two clubs are ongoing, with United keen to finalise the deal by early August, hoping to integrate Hojlund into the team before the commencement of the 2023/2024 season.
Despite the initial bid not being rejected outright, United are prepared to increase their offer if required. Negotiations are expected to continue to bridge the gap between the offer and Atalanta’s valuation. Personal terms with Hojlund have been agreed upon in principle, and the player himself is enthusiastic about the potential move, having admitted to his admiration for the Red Devils in the past.
There is an air of optimism surrounding the deal, given the extended discussions between the clubs over the past few months. In recent times, Erik ten Hag has been actively improving their squad. Goalkeeper Andre Onana and midfielder Mason Mount have already been signed as notable additions. Furthermore, the return of Jonny Evans on a short-term contract provides additional defensive cover during the pre-season.
The retention of Marcus Rashford with a new five-year contract further adds to the positive atmosphere at Manchester United, with the 25-year-old looking to build on a highly successful season, having netted an impressive 30 goals across all competitions last season.
