November 26, (THEWILL) – David De Gea could be on the verge of signing a new contract with Manchester United. While everything else has crumbled around him this season with the fallout being the sacking of former manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Spanish goalkeeper has done enough to remain impressive.

De Gea has been at United for a decade and has had his ups and downs, but at only 31 years old, his finest performances may still be ahead of him in between the sticks for the Old Trafford outfit.

The goalkeeper signed his most recent deal in 2019 and is under contract until 2023, with a one-year extension option. However, as the season draws to a close, United may be persuaded to extend the contract in order to preserve the stability of their group.

There is a lot of instability at Old Trafford right now, and the thought of bringing in a new manager and having to worry about De Gea being snatched up is something they will want to avoid.

When De Gea joined United from Atletico Madrid for £18.9 million in 2011, he became the world’s second most expensive goalkeeper behind Gianluigi Buffon.

It seems unfathomable that he will go anytime soon, and the fact that United are willing to let Dean Henderson go shows how important he is to their current situation and makes a new De Gea contract a reasonable play for United.
