August 07, (THEWILL) — Manchester United have reached an agreement with RB Leipzig to sign striker, Benjamin Šeško, after a protracted negotiation period. The Slovenia international had attracted interest from multiple English Premier League clubs, but United have prevailed in the race for his signature. Šeško, who has been training alone in recent days, has now been granted permission to travel to Manchester for a medical examination ahead of the proposed transfer.
The Red Devils faced competition from Newcastle United, who had submitted a superior financial bid for the 21-year-old forward. Leipzig officials had favoured Newcastle’s offer, which contained a higher guaranteed portion of the fee. However, Šeško’s determination to join Manchester ultimately proved decisive in the negotiations. United and Leipzig have reportedly now settled on a transfer fee after discussions on Thursday.
United have agreed to pay an initial €76.5 million, with a further €8.5 million in potential add-ons. The Manchester club conceded to increasing the guaranteed portion of the fee to Leipzig during negotiations. Newcastle’s bid had comprised an initial €82.5 million with only €2.5 million in additional payments, but the player’s preference forced Leipzig to accept United’s structured offer.
Šeško will become the third significant addition to United’s attack this summer, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million and Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth £71 million. The Slovenia international had previously signalled his desire to join United and maintained that stance throughout the transfer discussions. His arrival will take United’s summer expenditure beyond £200 million as they continue to reshape their forward line.
The club are expected to turn their attention to strengthening the midfield once Šeško’s transfer is completed. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba has been identified as a potential target, although the proposed move may prove too expensive for United’s budget. The Manchester club have invested heavily in their attacking options this summer, with Šeško representing the final piece in their offensive puzzle as they prepare for the 2025-26 campaign.
