June 14, (THEWILL) – Manchester United’s attempt to secure the services of midfielder, Mason Mount, has been met with rejection, as Chelsea turned down a £40m bid from the club.
24-year-old Mount, whose contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in the next 12 months, has so far been unwilling to extend his deal. Chelsea, open to the prospect of a summer sale, have stated that they would consider offers meeting their valuation of approximately £70m.
Despite United’s eagerness to entice Mount to Old Trafford, the club does not see eye to eye with Chelsea regarding the player’s worth. This discrepancy arises from Mount’s potential availability as a free agent at the end of the current season. Consequently, Chelsea swiftly rejected United’s £40m bid without hesitation.
While it is expected that United will return with an improved offer, potentially approaching £50m, they remain cautious about surpassing that figure. United hope that Chelsea will eventually reconsider their demands. In the meantime, incoming Chelsea manager, Mauricio Pochettino, has expressed a strong desire to retain Mount.
However, negotiations regarding a contract extension have failed to make progress, which has piqued the interest of other clubs including Arsenal, who have also initiated contact with Chelsea regarding forward, Kai Havertz.
