September 27, (THEWILL) – England and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has issued an update on his recovery from shoulder injury which revealed that he could be back in training by the end of the week at the earliest.
Rashford has not featured this season since his decision to undergo a shoulder operation following his England exploits at Euro 2020 in the summer. He had played through pain in his shoulder last season but still impressed throughout, missing just one League fixture.
The latest recovery timeline of the striker suggests that Rashford would return after the upcoming international break, putting him in contention for United’s game against Leicester on Saturday, October 16, a matchday eight tie at the King Power Stadium.
The forward sent out the update via his official Twitter account saying: “Happy Monday. I see the doctor on Friday for a consultation. All being well, I will get the green [light] to join in with contact training again.”
In his absence, United did not fare too badly even though they have witnessed a stutter recently, especially since their opening UEFA Champions League match. That UCL defeat to Young Boys was followed by an unconvincing victory over West Ham. Only for the same side, the Hammers, to deservedly knock them out of the Carabao Cup a few days later.
United continued to stutter on Saturday in their 1-0 loss to Aston Villa at Old Trafford. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s charges will be looking to return to winning ways against Villarreal in their UCL midweek tie, which is coincidentally a rerun of last season’s Europa League final, which United lost after an epic set of penalty-kicks.
Rashford’s return to the fray will add to United’s already overabundant attacking cast. THEWILL recalls that goal-machine Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho were recruited in the summer to join Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood and the resurgent Jesse Lingard in Solskjaer’s side.
