January 26, (THEWILL) – After suffering a concussion during Senegal’s AFCON round of 16 victory over Cape Verde, Sadio Mane has tweeted an update from the hospital.
THEWILL recalls that Mane ran onto a long ball and clashed with the opposing goalie, Josimar Dias, more popularly known as Vozinha, around the hour mark.
Following a VAR review, the Liverpool forward looked to lose consciousness in the air and landed hard, with the Cape Verde goalkeeper being sent out for the incident.
Mane appeared to be unaffected by the injury, as he came back to score just after the hour mark with a strike that clipped the bar on its way in.
He was brought to the hospital after the game for tests, where he posted a favourable update on his status.
In an Instagram post, to which he attached a photo of himself posing with Vozinha, who was also being assessed, Mane added the caption: “Everything is fine, thank you all for the messages.”
This news came after his manager, Aliou Cisse, expressed concerns about his health. After the final whistle against Cape Verde, Cisse said: “Sadio had a big shock with the goalkeeper and I haven’t heard from him yet, he was dizzy and he is currently in the hospital.
“We will have news later. I hope he is doing very well.”
Senegal went on to win 2-0 and will face the winner of Mali versus Equatorial Guinea in the quarter-finals.
Mane may or may not be eligible for Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Cardiff on Sunday, February 6 – the same day as the AFCON final – depending on how far his country proceeds in the competition.
