October 02, (THEWILL) – Juventus won the Derby della Mole for the second time on Saturday evening, defeating Torino 1-0 in a tense match in Turin.
Early on, the Bianconeri squandered two excellent chances to break the deadlock, with Moise Kean dragging a shot wide and Weston McKennie blasting well over the crossbar from within the area.
After failing to deal with a high ball into the area, Massimiliano Allegri’s side survived a scare of their own, as a header drifted just wide of Wojciech Szczesny’s far post. Juve were next limited to few attempts by a tenacious Torino defence, and the two teams went into the halftime break even.
In the second half, Juve were just as sluggish, trying to find any real fluidity in the final third. Alex Sandro was given space in the box, but Vanja Milinkovic-Savic stopped his header well.
In the closing moments, the Bianconeri dominated possession and ultimately scored when Manuel Locatelli turned on the edge of the box and curled a brilliant strike into the bottom corner of the net, eliciting loud celebrations from Juve fans.
Soon after, Dejan Kulusevski hit the post, but Locatelli’s goal was enough to secure all three points on a tight evening in Turin, giving Allegri’s side yet another key victory.
The opposition kept a close eye on Locatelli. Nonetheless, his dedication was evident throughout. Once, he dashed into the area and hit a shot at goal, but a Torino defender diverted his shot wide.
Finally, just as the Derby della Mole appeared to be heading for a goalless draw for the first time in a century, Locatelli won the game with a remarkable solo effort to curl the ball home. It was a performance worthy of his man of the match honour.
