SAN FRANCISCO, November 27, (THEWILL) – Diego Maradona’s lawyer has asked for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the Argentine soccer legend. The lawyer, Matias Morla, claims it took too long for an ambulance to arrive.
Morla said he considered it “criminal idiocy” for an ambulance to have taken “more than half an hour” to arrive at Maradona’s home in Buenos Aires, where the 1986 World Cup winner died of a heart attack on Wednesday.
Morla cited a report by the San Isidro district attorney’s office, as he took to Twitter to lay his claims.
“This fact cannot be overlooked and I’m going to ask for an investigation to look into it until the end. As Diego would say, you are my soldier, act with pity.”
Maradona was 60. He recently underwent brain surgery to remove a blood clot and was released to go home on the 11th of this month.
On Thursday, Argentines, in their thousands, lined up to pay their final respects to the former midfielder at the presidential palace, where his coffin was on display, draped in their flag and the colours of the Albicelestes.
