October 15, (THEWILL) –Â Marcus Rashford has been told by Manchester United to build up his upper body to cope with the physical demands of Premier League football.
The effects of missing only a few games since breaking onto the scene in the 2015-16 season have finally caught up with the 23-year-old in recent months.
Last year, he missed time due to a double back fracture, and this summer, he decided to have surgery for a bothersome shoulder problem after representing England at Euro 2020.
Rashford has been recovering since then and should make his long-awaited return on Saturday afternoon when his side travels to Leicester City.
The Englishman put on 4kg of muscle in his lower body during his recovery period. However, because his shoulder injury limited the amount of upper-body training he could do, this gain in mass has not reflected above the waist.
United will hope that by bulking up, Rashford becomes more robust, as losing him for an extended period of time like they have this season would be devastating.
Despite the fact that he will be available for selection against the Foxes, he is unlikely to get a start.
Summer signings Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo, in addition to Rashford, Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, and Edinson Cavani, will all need to be accommodated this season at one point or the other.
The game against Leicester is crucial for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, regardless of how they line up. They have only won one of their last four games across all competitions, and they need to keep up with the early pace-setters.
