June 3, (THEWILL)- Enzo Maresca has been confirmed as Chelsea’s new head coach, putting pen to paper on a long-term, five-year contract. The Italian tactician will bring six members of his coaching staff to Stamford Bridge, integrating them with Chelsea’s existing specialists.
An agreement with Leicester City, Maresca’s former club, was reached on Sunday, with Chelsea paying approximately £10 million in compensation. The Blues acknowledge the disruption caused to Leicester and appreciate their professionalism throughout the negotiations.
Maresca guided Leicester to the Championship title and English Premier League promotion last season. He previously served as an assistant at Manchester City, Sevilla, and West Ham, alongside a short stint as Parma’s head coach in 2021/2022. His playing career spanned clubs like West Brom, Juventus, Fiorentina, and Sevilla.
The 44-year-old Italian becomes Chelsea’s sixth manager since the Todd Boehly-Clearlake Capital takeover in 2022. He replaces Mauricio Pochettino, whose departure was mutually agreed upon last week after the club finished sixth in the EPL.
An official announcement from Chelsea is expected on Monday, with Maresca’s media presentation scheduled for later this week.
