October 01, (THEWILL) — Marseille delivered a dominant performance against Ajax on Tuesday evening, cruising to a 4-0 victory at Stade Velodrome in their UEFA Champions League matchday two fixture. The French side dismantled their Dutch opponents with clinical finishing and swift attacking play that left the visitors overwhelmed.
Brazilian forward Igor Paixao starred for the hosts, netting twice in the opening 12 minutes. He opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a curling finish beyond goalkeeper Vitezslav Jaros after latching onto Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s flick. Six minutes later, Paixao doubled the advantage with a powerful strike from the edge of the box into the bottom-left corner.
Mason Greenwood extended Marseille’s lead in the 26th minute, calmly slotting past Jaros after receiving a through ball from Aubameyang. The former Manchester United forward continued his impressive form since joining the French club.

The result sees Marseille recover from their UCL opening matchday defeat to Real Madrid, whilst Ajax remain pointless after also losing their first match to Inter. The Dutch giants face an uphill battle to progress from the group stage.
