December 21, (THEWILL) –Â Anthony Martial is reportedly interested in a January loan move to Sevilla although financial demands from Manchester United may prevent him from doing so.
The Frenchman’s representatives have publicly stated that Martial is unhappy at Old Trafford due to a lack of playing time, and there has been plenty of interest in him from clubs both the Premier League and abroad.
PSG and Lyon have previously been linked with bringing Martial back to Ligue 1, while Barcelona, Juventus, and newly wealthy Newcastle have also been mentioned as possible suitors. Newcastle is currently in the Premier League relegation zone and can afford some big spending to change that.
Martial is ready to take advantage of Sevilla’s interest, because the 26-year-old believes he will get regular play at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium, especially as their star striker, Youssef En-Nesyri, is expected to be out until mid-February with a muscle injury.
The Frenchman is expected to meet with Ralf Rangnick in the coming days to discuss his future, and it is probable that he will express his ambition to break into Didier Deschamps’ France team for the 2022 World Cup, something he will not be able to do from the bench at Old Trafford.
However, the Andalusians will struggle to match United’s financial demands, as the Red Devils are more than willing for Martial to remain in the club.
If the Red Devils were to consider a loan, any team that took Martial on loan would have to finance half of his wages, which are in excess of £250,000 per week, and commit to a permanent deal at the end of the loan period.
That type of financial commitment is likely to be an issue for Sevilla, despite the fact that they have a good chance of moving far in the Europa League and are now in second place in La Liga, six points behind League leaders Real Madrid.
Furthermore, Martial is under contract with United until 2024, with an option for an additional year, and the club’s recent spate of positive COVID-19 cases has emphasised the significance of squad depth, suggesting that United may be keen to retain him around despite of his desire to go.
