March 25, (THEWILL) – In connection with his alleged attack on fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter, Colby Covington, UFC fighter, Jorge Masvidal, pleaded not guilty to one felony count of aggravated violence with a mask and one felony count of criminal mischief.
Masvidal pleaded not guilty and was freed from jail on a $15,000 bond on Thursday morning, after being arrested on Wednesday night. Masvidal is due back in court on April 21 for a scheduled hearing.
According to police documents, the 37-year-old assaulted Covington outside a steakhouse in Miami Beach on Monday night. Covington claimed he had a damaged tooth, abrasion on his wrist, and damage to his watch.
An account of the attack noted that Masvidal “sucker punched” his opponent in the mouth and eye.
THEWILL recalls that the two fighters clashed at UFC 272 earlier this month, with Covington coming out on top. It was another setback for Masvidal, who has been on a losing streak in the Octagon of late and had just lost two straight fights to the “Nigerian Nightmare” Kamaru Usman.
