June 13, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe has reportedly informed Paris Saint-Germain of his intention to depart the club upon the expiry of his contract next year.
Last year, Mbappe signed a two-year contract extension with the French champions, which included an option for a third year until June 2024. The 24-year-old French international, has communicated to PSG through a letter that he will not exercise the final year of his contract, granting him freedom to leave the club next summer.
This decision allows Mbappe to potentially negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a non-French club starting from January 2024, making it imperative for PSG to consider selling him during the current transfer window in order to avoid losing him for nothing.
This development echoes last year’s situation when Real Madrid seemed poised to secure the player’s services, only for Mbappe to ultimately choose to extend his stay with PSG. While the news comes as a surprise, it is not without context. The club previously faced allegations of employing a firm to criticise its own players, including Mbappe, through Twitter accounts.
