September 03, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain inflicted more misery on struggling Olympique Lyonnais with a convincing 4-1 victory at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais on Sunday.
Luis Enrique’s men were dominant from the outset and capitalised on sloppy Lyon play to secure a comfortable win. The home side’s problems started after just three minutes when Corentin Tolisso casually lost possession to Federico Valverde, who was brought down by the Lyon midfielder for a penalty. Kylian Mbappe dispatched the spot kick despite Anthony Lopes getting a hand to it.
PSG continued to control possession and Ousmane Dembele was allowed to drift infield and deliver a tempting cross that Lopes parried into the path of Achraf Hakimi to poke home. Some exquisite passing from Valverde then split the Lyon defence, playing in Marco Asensio, who calmly stroked the ball beyond Lopes.
Again, Lyon carelessly gave away the ball minutes later, allowing Asensio to slide Mbappe through on goal to make it 4-0 at the break. The second half was more even, with PSG taking their foot off the gas. Lyon debutant, Mohamed Nuamah, spurned a great chance as he was denied by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Eduardo Camavinga then fouled Nicolas Tagliafico in the box, allowing Tolisso to atone for his earlier error by converting the penalty. However, the damage was already done as Lyon slumped to the foot of the table while PSG climbed to second behind Monaco going into the international break.
