November 17, (THEWILL) — A bitter legal battle between Kylian Mbappé and Paris Saint-Germain came before the French Labour court on Monday, with the France international seeking €263 million whilst his former employers countered with a €440 million demand.
The 26-year-old forward did not attend the hearing but sent four lawyers to argue his case against PSG’s team of seven legal representatives.
PSG’s claim centres partly on a failed €300 million transfer to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal in June 2023, which Mbappé rejected.
Renaud Semerdjian, representing the Qatari-owned club, told AFP the figure includes lost transfer fees, compensation for reputational damage, and alleged breach of an agreement following the Saudi offer.
Mbappé denies making any arrangement to forfeit payments from the club.
The striker originally filed his complaint in June regarding his treatment at the start of the 2023/2024 campaign.
He claims PSG isolated him and forced him to train with unwanted players after he refused to sign a new deal. The forward missed the club’s pre-season tour of Asia and the opening match before returning following negotiations with management.
Mbappé departed for Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expired last summer, where he now earns a reported €30 million annually.
During his seven seasons in Paris, he scored 256 goals in 308 appearances, though the club secured its first UEFA Champions League trophy last season after his exit.
The tribunal will deliberate for several weeks before delivering its verdict on December 16.
The case involves disputes over contractual classification under French employment law and whether standard industry practices around contract negotiations constitute unfair treatment.
Both parties presented extensive lists of financial grievances during Monday’s proceedings.
