August 20, (THEWILL) – Kylian Mbappe made an impact off the bench for Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday, scoring a second-half penalty after coming on as a substitute.
However, PSG were unable to hold onto their lead as Toulouse equalised late through a penalty of their own to secure a 1-1 draw. Mbappe started the match on the bench along with Ousmane Dembélé. The two came on as substitutes at halftime and immediately sparked PSG’s attack, applying constant pressure down the wings.
Mbappe won a penalty after beating his defender and getting fouled in the box. He stepped up and converted the spot kick to give PSG a 1-0 lead. Les Parisiens looked in control for much of the second half but a lapse in concentration from defender Achraf Hakimi led to a late foul in the box on Toulouse’s Zakaria Aboukhlal.
Aboukhlal kept his composure and buried the penalty to equalise for Toulouse in the 86th minute and that was how the match ended. The 1-1 draw will feel like dropped points for PSG, who dominated large stretches of the match but failed to turn their possession into more goals. For Toulouse, the late equaliser will be crucial impetus for their Ligue 1 campaign.
After their second draw of the season, PSG have two points and are 8th on the table with Toulouse 3rd with four points. Next up for PSG is a clash with Lens on Saturday while Toulouse face Strasbourg on Sunday.
