May 23, (THEWILL) –Â Prior to the start of his trial on July 25, Benjamin Mendy entered a not guilty plea to nine counts of sexual offences.
Further charges of seven rapes and two other attacks against six women have been been levelled against the Manchester City defender.
When he was first brought into police custody in August 2021, the club suspended him “pending an inquiry.” In January 2022, he was released on bond.
On Monday, Mendy pleaded not guilty at Chester Crown Court. He will stand trial alongside co-defendant Louis Saha Matturie, who is charged with 10 offences including seven counts of rape against five women.
The City defender and France international came from Le Havre’s Youth Academy, starting his career with the reserve team in 2010 before being promoted to the first team a year later.
