Lionel Messi

May 02, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain’s Lionel Messi has made a trip to Saudi Arabia, reportedly against the club’s wishes.

The football superstar is out of contract with PSG at the end of the season, and Saudi Arabian clubs have shown interest in signing him. However, his former club, Barcelona, are also looking for ways to re-sign Messi, and PSG have come to terms with the player’s likely departure this summer.

Messi was expected in Saudi Arabia as part of a contractual agreement with the Saudi Arabian tourist office, having already postponed the trip twice this season. However, the footballer’s request to change PSG’s training schedule to accommodate his visit was turned down by head coach Christophe Galtier and sporting advisor Luis Campos.

As a result, Messi reportedly skipped a PSG training session to make the trip. Les Parisiens declined to comment on whether Messi was granted permission to travel, but reports monitored by THEWILL note that the rest of the PSG squad was surprised by his actions.

As THEWILL previously reported, besides Saudi Arabian and American clubs, Messi’s former team Barcelona are actively seeking a reunion with their Argentine icon, with the club reportedly leaving “no stone unturned” in their pursuit of the superstar.
