October 8, (THEWILL) – Paris Saint-Germain laboured to a 0-0 draw with Reims in Ligue 1, as they lost points for just the second time this season, not at all helped by an unnecessary Sergio Ramos red card.
Neymar started the game on the bench and Lionel Messi was not in the starting XI, as he was reportedly nursing an injury. In the absence of the pair, PSG struggled to advance against their resolute hosts.
Ramos received two cards in rapid succession, with the second goal for dissent, just before halftime. The moment of lunacy from the Spanish defender led Christophe Galtier’s team to play the majority of the game with 10 players.
Then, Neymar came off the bench to fluff PSG’s perfect chance in the second half. It was a very telling miss as the final whistle came with Reims preventing the defending Ligue 1 winners from pulling ahead of Marseille by five points.
In a week, Reims will take to the road to play Lorient. As for PSG, they are up against Marseille in Ligue 1 next Sunday, but face Benfica in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
