May 15, (THEWILL) – Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, has expressed confidence in the club’s chances of re-signing Lionel Messi this summer.
Messi’s contract with Paris Saint-Germain is set to expire in a month, and negotiations for his return to Camp Nou have been ongoing for a while. Laporta believes that Messi wants to come back to Barcelona and that the club will do everything possible to make it happen.
“We will try everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona,” Laporta said after the team secured the La Liga title. “I have spoken with Messi to address the situation. It was very nice. We have recovered our relationship. Messi wants Barca; he feels this club is his home.”
To make Messi’s return possible, Barcelona needs to lower its wage bill and prove its ability to get back under the salary cap. The club has submitted a feasibility plan to La Liga in this regard, and Sergio Busquets’ imminent departure from Camp Nou will also free up space on the wage budget. Laporta is confident that the club will be able to make the necessary adjustments to secure Messi’s return.
