The two-year contract, running through the 2027 season, reunites Mascherano with international football star Lionel Messi, whom he previously played alongside for both Barcelona and the Argentine national team.
The 40-year-old Mascherano brings limited but promising coaching experience to the role, having previously led Argentina’s Under-23 national team to a 13-1-8 record and a quarter-final appearance at the Paris Olympics.
