The Metropolitan Police Events Twitter account retweeted an image on Saturday, featuring a man sporting a Manchester United shirt bearing the number 97 and the words “Not Enough.” The number and phrasing on the jersey were seen as a reference to the tragic Hillsborough disaster.
Promptly responding to the offensive display, the FA swiftly identified the individual in question with the assistance of their security team. In an official statement, the FA stated, “We will not tolerate abuse relating to Hillsborough or any football tragedy at Wembley Stadium, and we will continue to work with the authorities to ensure strong action is taken against perpetrators.”
THEWILL recalls that the Hillsborough disaster, which occurred on April 15, 1989, resulted in the unfortunate deaths of 97 football fans during a match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield.
