February 15, (THEWILL) – Contrary to reports that the Lagos-based football club of the Mountain of Fire and Miracles (MFM) Ministries had been disbanded following their relegation to the Nigeria National League (NNL), the MFM Director of Sports, Godwin Enakhena, has publicly debunked the rumours.
MFM FC finished bottom of the NPFL table, with only 36 points in 38 games resulting in their relegation. The club participated in the induction of NNL clubs for the upcoming season. However, there were reports that the club’s slot had been taken over by Henserd FC from Sagbama, Bayelsa State because they were disbanded.
However, the Director of Sports at Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, Godwin Enakhena, denied these claims. Rather, he said, the club’s NNL slot had been handed back to those who had given them their NNL slot. In the interim, MFM FC turned their focus to community football and their annual Dr. D. K. Olukoya International Youth Football Competition, which draws participants from branches across Africa.
Enakhena also noted that their parent organisation was dedicated to expanding their support for Nigerian youth through sports and other initiatives like scholarships and vocational training. In addition to women’s basketball and wrestling, the organisation is positioned to bring back a national table tennis event and athletics for the Under-18s.
Enakhena intimated that all of these align with their “divinely ordained 70 points Youth Repositioning Agenda,” which seeks to support young people in Nigeria and beyond through various means, including sports. It is still unclear if they intend to return to any of the domestic leagues any time soon.
