October 1, (THEWILL) – Fode Ballo-Toure and Rafael Leao found the back of the net to help Serie A champions, AC Milan, defeat Empoli in a thrilling 3-1 triumph.
Ante Rebic gave Milan the lead in the 79th minute, but Nedim Bajrami’s free-kick equaliser in the 92nd minute appeared to have given Empoli a point for all their efforts trying to keep their more prestigious opponents at bay.
However, Ballo-Toure scored the winning goal in the 94th minute to break Empoli’s will.
Empoli’s aspirations were thereafter destroyed, allowing Leao to add a third to ensure that Milan, who had lost to Napoli the previous time out, got back on the winning track as their title defence continued.
On Wednesday, Milan will resume play with a challenging trip to Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League while next Sunday, Empoli will travel to meet Torino in Serie A.
