March 13, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has heaped praise on the nation’s women wrestlers for their extraordinary performances at the 13th edition of the All African Games in Ghana.
The Minister expressed immense pride as the Nigerian women wrestlers flew the country’s flag high, clinching an impressive six gold medals in the Freestyle Wrestling category.
The resounding success began with Blessing Genesis’s triumph in the 50kg category, where she defeated Emma Nekassa of Kenya. Ogunsanya Christiana followed suit, claiming gold in the 53kg division by outclassing Mohammad S. of Egypt. Adekuroye Odunayo’s victory in the 57kg category further solidified Nigeria’s dominance.
Kolowole Esther’s impressive performance saw her overcome Kruger M. of the Republic of South Africa in the 62kg category, adding another golden feat to Nigeria’s tally. Oborodudu Blessing’s triumph over Abdullateef S. of Egypt in the 68kg division and Hannah Rubin’s victory against Hamza S. of Egypt in the 76kg category capped off an extraordinary day for the Nigerian women wrestlers.
The Nigerian contingent’s success extended beyond wrestling, with Anioluwapo Opeyori, the African Badminton champion, securing a gold medal and a silver medal in his respective events, further amplifying the country’s accomplishments at the Games.
Enoh encouraged the athletes to maintain their focus on winning and assured them of the government’s unwavering support under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He affirmed the administration’s commitment to the Nigerian sports sector, promising timely payment of dues as the team looks forward to more triumphs in the coming days of the competition.
