July 08, (THEWILL) – Inter Miami have announced that it will hold a presentation event, titled “The Unveil”, on July 16, at its Major League Soccer home stadium.
This event will mark the official introduction of Argentine football superstar, Lionel Messi, who recently confirmed his move to the club after leaving Paris Saint-Germain. Although the press release from Inter Miami did not mention Messi by name, it is expected that the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will be the centre of attention during the exciting event.
Alongside Messi, his former Barcelona teammate, Sergio Busquets, as well as newly appointed coach, Gerardo Martino, are anticipated to be presented together. Messi, who achieved World Cup glory with the Argentine national team last December, is set to make his debut for Inter Miami on July 21 in a Leagues Cup match against Mexican club, Cruz Azul. The team’s majority owner, Jorge Mas, has expressed the intention to make additional signings during the current transfer window, as the club aims to improve its position.
With Inter Miami currently sitting at the bottom of the MLS’ Eastern Conference and ranked 28th out of 29 clubs in the League, the acquisitions of Messi and Busquets, along with Martino’s coaching expertise, are expected to inject a competitive spirit into the team.
“The Unveil” will take place at Inter Miami’s DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, just north of Miami. The club’s co-owner, former England and Manchester United midfielder David Beckham, is also expected to make an appearance at the event. Speaking about Messi and Busquets’ move to the MLS club, coach Gerardo Martino highlighted that they are coming to compete rather than take it easy. He pointed to their winning mentality, having achieved success at both the international and club levels, stating that they are determined to continue their competitive journey in the United States.
