August 31, (THEWILL) – Kyle Reyes, an unarmed combat veteran, a beloved member of Xtreme Couture and Mixed martial Artist, has died at the age of 30, as confirmed by his family on Monday.
The deceased, who underwent surgery to repair a torn bicep and broken hand last week, was “found unresponsive in his room” one day after the procedure and rushed to the hospital.
The exact cause of his death is unknown at this time.
Family sources revealed that Reyes “developed pneumonia and suffered a collapsed lung” while in the hospital.
It is an unfortunate turn of circumstances as the GoFundMe set up by his family noted that his condition had improved to the point that he was able to undergo an MRI in order for doctors to get a full picture of his brain.
The Guam native made his professional debut in mixed martial arts as an 18-year-old in 2009. He defeated Kyle Aguon by unanimous decision in Pacific X-treme Combat and began a promising career in unarmed combat.
Over the course of his 11-year fighting career, Reyes went through a professional record of 15 wins and seven losses in 22 bouts. He fought primarily in PXC but also featured in the World Fighting Federation, Rage in the Cage and Final Fight Championship.
The last match Reyes fought was against Bibert Tumenov in Russia’s Absolute Championship Akhmat on Feb. 21, 2020.
