Dozy Mmobuosi

April 02, (THEWILL) – Nigerian entrepreneur, Dozy Mmobuosi, has revealed he is hopeful of soon announcing positive news on his bid to purchase Championship club Sheffield United.

Mmobuosi, who is the founder of Tingo Mobile, agreed on a fee with current owner, Prince Abdullah, and is now waiting for the English Football League’s (EFL) approval, which is subject to a strict Owners’ and Directors’ test. This test requires him to demonstrate he has clear funds in a bank account not only to buy the club’s shares but also to cover its immediate financial future.

After meeting with the EFL at their headquarters in Preston last month, Mmobuosi was made aware of the requirements needed to successfully complete the takeover. It has been a protracted process, but the Nigerian remains optimistic that an outcome will be reached soon.

However, time is running out for the club as the end of the season approaches and they need to plan for the next campaign. Mmobuosi, who recently acquired ownership of Tingo Mobile and Tingo Foods, both of which he founded, hopes the purchase of Sheffield United will bring significant advantages to the Tingo group.

In a recent presentation with investors, Mmobuosi stated: “I have the desire to be the first black person to own a Premier League football club. I believe, of course, that Sheffield United will be promoted to the Premier League.” He also believes that owning the club will increase awareness of the Tingo brand in Nigeria and throughout Africa.
