February 26, (THEWILL) – Nice achieved a stunning victory against their local rivals, Monaco, at the Stade Louis II, with an impressive 3-0 scoreline, thanks to outstanding individual performances from Terem Moffi and Khéphren Thuram.
Despite Monaco dominating possession in the game, they failed to convert any of their nine shots, leaving Nice with few opportunities, but lethal finishing. Moffi scored two almost identical goals, and Thuram added a sublime solo goal to make it three before halftime.
This defeat comes as a shock for Monaco, who were unbeaten in Ligue 1 in 2023, including a 3-1 defeat of Paris Saint-Germain, until this game, and had scored in every Ligue 1 match since March 2022. However, they were unable to make an impact in the game, even after making four changes at halftime.
Nice, on the other hand, continues to impress under their unbeaten manager, Didier Digard and Moffi’s brace sees him become the first Nice player to score 2 or more goals at Monaco in a Ligue 1 game since January 2018. Nice’s victory could potentially earn them a European qualification spot next season. For Monaco, this defeat could damage their title credentials, as they remain in third place.
Monaco will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when they go to relegation-threatened Troyes, who are in 19th place on Sunday. Before then, Nice welcome Auxerre to the Allianz Riviera on Friday.
