October 09, (THEWILL) – Lorient’s continued their run of straight victories in Ligue 1 as a brace from Super Eagles’ forward Terem Moffi gave them a 2-1 win over Brest in the Breton Derby.
The home side took the lead after just 17 minutes through Romain Del Castillo but in the 24th minute, Lorient equalised through a spectacular goal from Moffi. It was the first half of an adrenaline-pumping, play-filled, intense derby at Francis-Le Blé.
The teams went into the interval tied at a goal apiece and it was Moffi again that completed the comeback and the victory when play resumed. In the 53rd minute, the ball fell mercifully for Moffi who wasted no time to bury it into the opposite corner of Brest’s keeper Marco Bizot.
There were no other goals ensuring that Lorient won a victory and lifted the Ligue 1 surprise team of the moment to second place on the log as they jumped over Marseille after matchday 10, with only one point separating them from League leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
The brace meant that the Lorient Nigerian striker has now scored more goals than any other African player in Europe’s top 5 leagues in this early stage of the 2022/2023 campaign, with eight goals in the nine matches. It takes Moffi’s tally in France to 37 behind only John Utaka’s 59 and Victor Ikpeba’s 55, among Nigerians that played in Ligue 1.
