October 22, (THEWILL) – Simon Moses was on hand to help Nantes claim a well-deserved 2-0 home win against Montpellier on Sunday. Florent Mollet opened the scoring for Nantes in the 43rd minute, firing home from inside the box to give the home side a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Canaries continued to dominate after the interval but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Their pressure finally told in the 73rd minute when substitute Abdoul Kader Bamba doubled the advantage on the counter attack after being set up by Simon.
Montpellier offered little going forward and rarely threatened the Nantes goal. Their best chances fell to Musa Al-Taamari and substitute Kelvin Yeboah but both failed to capitalise. Nantes did well to neutralise Montpellier’s top striker Akor Adams with the Nigerian unable to change the outcome.
In the end, Nantes’ superior quality shone through to secure a comfortable victory. The win lifts Nantes to seventh in Ligue 1, as they continue their initial climb up the standings from before the international break. Montpellier remain stuck just above the drop zone in 15th after a disappointing performance.
Nantes will look to build on this result when they travel to Lens next weekend. Montpellier welcome Toulouse to the Stade de La Mosson for their next encounter.
