January 10, (THEWILL) – Former West Ham United manager David Moyes is set to return to Everton, according to reports.
The 61-year-old Scottish manager prepares to guide the Merseyside club for a second time, more than a decade after departing for Manchester United in 2013.
The managerial change comes after Everton dismissed Sean Dyche on Thursday.
The club currently occupies 16th position in the English Premier League standings, maintaining a single-point advantage over the relegation positions following a challenging start to the 2024/2025 campaign.
Moyes arrives with significant accomplishments from his previous role at West Ham United, where he led the London side to their first major trophy in 43 years, winning the UEFA Conference League.
His departure from West Ham occurred after the 2023/2024 season.
His initial tenure at Everton spanned 11 years, during which he transformed the club from relegation candidates into regular European contenders.
A notable achievement included guiding Everton to Champions League qualification matches in 2005. Following his time at Everton, Moyes managed Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland.
The experienced manager inherits an Everton squad that has recorded just three EPL victories this season.
The club maintains more than 70 consecutive years in England’s top division, though recent seasons have involved frequent battles against relegation.
In the immediate term, club captain Seamus Coleman and Under-18s coach Leighton Baines oversaw Everton’s 2-0 victory against Peterborough United in the FA Cup third round on Thursday.
On Wednesday, the team will take on Aston Villa in their next EPL fixture.
