October 5, (THEWILL) – At the first-ever in-person Sports Positive Summit at Wembley Stadium, the five inaugural BBC Green Sports Awards winners were revealed.
On October 4 and 5, the Sports Positive Summit assembled corporate leaders to work together, to advance climate-conscious development and put sustainability at the centre of the sports industry.
The awards, which were given out in collaboration with Sports Positive, are meant to honour people and groups that “actively contribute to a more sustainable future through their sporting profile and practices.”
Morten Thorsby, a player for Union Berlin, was selected as the Young Athlete of the Year. Thorsby established the We Play Green Foundation, a player-led, non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering more sustainable behaviours and attitudes.
The nominees included athletes from other sports, including football. Chicago Red Stars player Zoe Morse was nominated for the Young Athlete of the Year award for her work advocating for clean water access in the USA.
