May 04, (THEWILL) – Andy Murray has advanced to the quarter-finals of the Aix-en-Provence Challenger, after a hard-fought 6-4 5-7 6-3 win over Laurent Lokoli.
The British tennis star and former world number one showed resilience after Lokoli, ranked number 187 in the world, made a comeback from a two-set deficit. This is the 35-year-old’s first back-to-back wins since March.
Murray’s journey in the tournament began on Thursday when he won his first-round match against Gael Monfils. He continued to show his form on Thursday despite his mid-match stumble against Lokoli. Murray had to fight hard to recover after Lokoli won four consecutive games to take the second set, but he ultimately managed to seal victory in the third.
Next up for Murray is Luca Van Assche. The Frenchman will be looking to upset Murray’s momentum in the quarter-finals of the tournament. Murray, however, will have to be focused on his long strokes and service game if he is to continue his winning streak and reach the semi-finals without any further mid-match stumbles.
