Musetti

July 11, (THEWILL) – Italian tennis player, Lorenzo Musetti, has advanced to his first Grand Slam semi-final after defeating American, Taylor Fritz, at Wimbledon. The 25th seed overcame Fritz in five sets, winning 3-6, 7-6(5), 6-2, 3-6, 6-1 on Court One.

Musetti displayed resilience after losing the first set, fighting back to win a crucial second-set tiebreak. He then dominated the third set before Fritz levelled the match by taking the fourth. However, Musetti raised his game in the deciding set, racing to a 5-0 lead before serving out the victory.

The 22-year-old Italian mixed up his play effectively, using slices and variations to disrupt Fritz’s powerful baseline game. Musetti said he was “really happy” with his achievement and praised his own fighting spirit throughout the match.

Musetti’s reward is a semifinal clash with seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic. The Serbian advanced after his opponent Alex de Minaur withdrew due to injury. Musetti acknowledged the scale of the challenge, calling Djokovic “probably the best player ever or one of the best ever.”
