November 21, (THEWILL) – Nigerian rapper, Emeka Akumefule, professionally known as Blaqbonez, has explained how he came about his stage name.
The rapper made the revelation in the latest episode of ‘Tea With Tay’ podcast. According to him, his stage name initially belonged to an undisclosed friend.
He added that he stole the name from his friend because he was not using it for anything significant.
However, he had to get his friend’s consent when he realized he had fallen in love with the name before he started using it officially.
“I stole it, it was my friend’s name. His name was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t using it for anything. The guy just likes rap so he gave himself a rap name, he wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything.
“So one day, I just said ‘bro, you no dey use this name and I like am’ and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I was in school then.”
The music act also revealed that he started his career as a rapper in response to a challenge thrown at him by his cousin.
“I had no idea I could sing or rap earlier. I started rapping because I was challenged by my cousin. I used to criticise people, I thought nothing was difficult.
“I thought whatever you’re doing, if I decide to do it, I will do it better so that’s how I started rapping.”
