July 17, (THEWILL) – The National President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA), Dr Rakiya Abubakar, has distributed food and non-food items, cautioning young persons with disabilities against engaging in social vices that will land them in jail.
Dr Rakiya, who gave caution during the distribution of food and non-food items to 150 vulnerable groups comprising widows and persons with disabilities at the Air Force Base, Makurdi, also lamented a situation where some well-placed personalities use the vulnerable group for their selfish aims.
She explained that the distribution of wheelchairs, clutches, and food items among others to the vulnerable is to aid their movement, cushion the effects of hunger and help improve their livelihood.
“This is done in continuation of NAFOWA’s programme on Mental Health talk/Medical and Humanitarian outreach across the country.
“Today’s donation is in commemoration of my one year in office. So far, 3,500 vulnerable Nigerians across the States have benefitted from the association’s ongoing initiative.”
While appealing to beneficiaries not to engage in criminal activities, she also urged them not to sell items given to them as palliatives, but rather, to make maximum use of them to improve their standard of living.
Earlier, the NAFOWA chairperson, Tactical Air Command Makurdi, Osas Edosa, applauded Dr Abubakar for her pragmatic leadership style of alleviating the plight of the vulnerable in the country, pointing out that the gesture will go a long way in cushioning the impact of the hardship the Vulnerable persons are going through.
