Naismith Basketball Hall Of Fame

April 07, (THEWILL) – The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame has announced its esteemed Class of 2024, featuring a remarkable array of NBA legends, coaching icons and trailblazing athletes. This year’s induction ceremony, set to take place in August, will honour the extraordinary achievements and contributions of these basketball luminaries.

The class includes former NBA stars, Chauncey Billups, Vince Carter, Michael Cooper and Walter Davis. Billups, now the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, was known as “Mr Big Shot” for his clutch performances, while Carter, an eight-time All-Star, dazzled fans with his iconic dunking abilities. Cooper, a defensive stalwart, was part of five championship teams with the Los Angeles Lakers, while Davis, a six-time All-Star, remains the leading scorer in Phoenix Suns history.

Joining the NBA greats are coaching legends Bo Ryan and Charles Smith. Ryan, the former Wisconsin head coach, amassed an impressive 747 wins during his college coaching career, while Smith, a Louisiana high school coaching icon, secured nine state championships.

The class also features the induction of four-time WNBA champion, eight-time All-Star Seimone Augustus, and the late Harley Redin, who coached the Wayland Baptist women’s team for 18 seasons. Former WNBA star Michelle Timms was chosen by the Hall’s International Committee, while former coach, player, and broadcaster Doug Collins, Indiana Pacers owner Herb Simon, and player/executive Jerry West were named as contributors.

West’s induction marks a significant milestone, as he becomes the first member of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame to be inducted as both a player and a contributor.

The induction ceremonies for the Class of 2024 are scheduled for August 16 and 17 in Springfield, Massachusetts, and Uncasville, Connecticut, providing basketball enthusiasts with the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable careers and legacies of these basketball greats.
