Victor Osimhen

October 20, (THEWILL) – Napoli President, Aurelio De Laurentiis, has conceded that the club will struggle to keep hold of star striker Victor Osimhen if the 24-year-old has set his heart on leaving.

Osimhen, whose contract expires in 2025, was in talks over an extension earlier this summer but a new deal has yet to be finalised. Relations between player and club have since deteriorated, with Napoli’s social media team mocking the Nigerian after he missed a penalty.

English Premier League giants Chelsea are monitoring proceedings closely and could make a move next year to give Napoli time to recoup a sizable fee. Liverpool and Arsenal are also gathering information on Osimhen, though concrete talks have not commenced.

De Laurentiis admitted to reporters: “I have never not been calm about Osimhen, but it takes two to tango. If his mood has changed then there’s not much I can do.” He referenced selling Kalidou Koulibaly late in the last window as evidence of his pragmatism.
