June 15, (THEWILL) – Nigeria’s iconic National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, recently played host to an unexpected gathering of talent, as uninvited Super Eagles players took to the field for an impromptu training session.
Despite not being part of the official squad preparing for the upcoming AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone, these players bandied together for the love of the game. The atmosphere at the Legacy Pitch was charged with excitement as the presence of the international stars at the local grounds thrilled fans who were present.
Those at the stadium were Victor Boniface, the top scorer of the 2022/2023 UEFA Europa League competition, and Cremonese forward, David Okereke, both of whom were joined by other notable names such as Paul Onuachu from Southampton, Chigozie Awaziem from Hajduk Split, John Ogu from Maccabi Haifa FC, Samuel Kalu from Watford FC, Oghenekaro Etebo from Aris FC, Henry Onyekuru from Adana Demirspor and Afeez Aremu from St. Pauli.
Their dedication to training together, despite not being included in the official squad, was evidence of their professionalism and unwavering passion for the sport. Rather than being disheartened by their omission, these players seized the opportunity to display their abilities and remind the coaching staff of the depth and competitiveness within the Super Eagles squad.
